Musical arcade game, at first glance resembles a race: the player in possession is a space ship and the route you want to go by typing the most points.
While at first the game seems the race, in reality it is a puzzle. After selecting one of a dozen ships, the player must choose a route. In Audiosurf route are songs, with members free to choose any track located on his hard drive or CD (DVD) media.

Audiosurf is a music-adapting puzzle racer where you use your own music to create your own experience. The shape, the speed, and the mood of each ride is determined by the song you choose. You earn points for clustering together blocks of the same color on the highway, and compete with others on the internet for the high score on your favorite songs.
Audiosurf on Steam includes The Orange Box soundtrack, integrated with the game to enable “Still Alive” surfing and more. In addition, Audiosurf is one of the first titles to leverage the recently announced Steamworks, offering full support for the Steam Achievements that appear on Steam Community profile pages.

Levels are arbitrarily curved ribbon in a certain space; on the tape, there are three tracks with blocks, and in some cases – two on the edges, which blocks not. The figures, like a ship, moving forward, but with a much lower rate. Each user-selected audio track analysis of the game, the result is created and maintained containing information about the dynamics of sound, the geometry of the road and the location of the blocks ASH-file associated with the song (its size is about 30 kilobytes). This allows you to speed up the time of re-loading the same sound file. The height and shape of the tracks reflect the dynamics of the playing of music. For example, if the player chose the slow, quiet song, the route will be on the rise, traffic will be slow, the environment is filled with cool colors. If you selected an intense and loud song, during the game will ship to descend the mountain with great speed, and the route will be filled in blocks with a large number of warm colors.

Unlike the races from the player does not need to try to stay within the tracks, only need to collect the blocks in rows. The game resembles the color Tetris with the only difference being that each block has exactly one cell and you can select the one that need. Each figure, which knocks the boat, falls in the imaginary “glass”, which is under a ship and sails with him on the map. The front is a glass top and rear, respectively, bottom.
